8.6.15 - Cape Cod Museum Of Natural History - KidSummer - Birding 101
Brewster, MA

The KidSummer Kids get to enjoy many advantages at the Cape Cod Museum Of Natural History while they're here for daycamp!  One of the many happens to be having the museum to themselves before the public is allowed access.  This is when I like to take advantage of Bird Alley and spending some artistic time sketching and drawing birds.  Wait 'til you see the hard work they put in with their illustrations!   I'm always interested in the artistic process, particularly with children's art.  I love how free they are and I wonder which species they'll be compelled to draw.  It's a peaceful way to begin our day.  Best question of the day: "Why do they call them Tree Swallows...do they swallow trees?"  Cracked me up!   We also made a visit to the Coastal Explorer, a mobile museum about the coast and the ocean and creatures in and around it.  What a tremendous vehicle it is!  Kids can watch, listen, learn and even touch marine life real skulls, play with puppets, look through microscopes!  It is a naturalist party on wheels!  I highly recommend it if you ever get to board for a few minutes. The KidSummer Kids were fascinated and entertained!
We also walked through and simply enjoyed the museum, all the while practicing good museum behavior.  I had intended on a bird walk this morning but the allure of the magic window in the Marshview Room took over... we enjoyed it thoroughly and saw several species.  We all voted to stay in there for today because we couldn't be torn from the sights in the window - a warbler included!  (double click photos to enlarge)
